Wednesday, 29th September 2010,
Micro Cars Limited “The National
Car Manufacturer” in another
historic and ground breaking
achievement dispatched the first
consignment of export vehicles
to Nepal from the Micro
manufacturing facility in EPZ
Polgahawela on 29th September
2010. An initial order
of the Sri Lankan-made
Micro MX7
model will be shipped soon with
a total of 150 cars scheduled to
be exported during the first
year of the agreement. |

“Dr. Lawrence Perera, Chairman,
Micro Cars Ltd delivering the
welcome speech spoke about
Micro’s past, present and
future. He explained how
daunting the 1st Micro Car
project was and that most people
at the time thought a locally
designed and manufactured car
was a mere myth. He went on to
say that his struggle to develop
the 1st Sri Lankan Car in many
respects resembled the victory
over terrorism, “something that
had been deemed impossible was
achieved with great success”.
Dr. Perera, thanked His
Excellency the President for
encouraging local manufacture
and the Government for their
unwavering support.
The 1st consignment of export
vehicles to Nepal were
ceremoniously driven from the
factory floor by Honorable
Minister Basil Rajapakse,
Minster Kumara Welgama, Minister
Rishad Bathiudeen and Board of
Directors of Micro to the
factory loading dock and into a
40Ft Container.
The press conference which
followed shed further light in
to Micro’s aspirations. Dr.
Lawrence Perera who chaired the
conference along with the Board
of Directors stated that an
annual export volume to Nepal of
about 150 vehicles could be
expected in the first year which
would steadily increase thereon.
The initial consignments would
consist of the Micro MX7 Sedan
Car and Micro MPV Junior III
Mini Van. He further stated that
Micro was vigorously working on
expanding export market |
